Last year, I read The Couple Next Door…in only a few days. It was a book that I couldn’t put down. A book that captured then held my attention. A book that completely blew me away…especially with that unexpected ending.
So when a coworker gave me Lapena’s other novel, A Stranger In The House, I knew I was going to read it. Immediately.
On a quick weekend trip, I didn’t bring a laptop like usual, and chose to read on my flight instead. That flight was all I needed. Book was read by the time I landed. Like The Couple Next Door, I was completely captured.

Set in upstate New York, the story follows Karen and Tom, the perfect couple. Newlyweds, full of love and a forever future together is rocked upside down, when Karen is involved in a car accident and can’t remember the events that led to her crash and the events that led to a murder across town.
Slowly, Karen and Tom’s pasts unwind themselves, leading readers to start putting pieces together, to start speculating…and my favorite, to start figuring out who the stranger actually is.
You’ve read that right. When I finished the book, it struck me: The person who was suspected to the “the stranger” the entire book, once I finished, I realized that I may have had it all wrong. The character whom I thought I knew the most about…she was the stranger.
{…at least that’s how I interpreted it.}
I absolutely recommend this book, as I really enjoyed it. However, I also always recommend going to Good Reads if you’re looking for more in depth summaries or {gasp} even spoilers.
…and if you do read it, I can’t wait to read what you think!
